Overview
Gerion II is an ancient volcanic world whose surface has been shaped by intense geological activity over millions of years. Vast basalt plains, dark volcanic mountains and extensive fields of solidified lava dominate its landscape. Although volcanic activity continues beneath the surface, visible magma is mostly confined to deep tectonic fractures, underground rivers and isolated volcanic basins.
A massive elevated tectonic plateau provides a relatively stable environment, with temperatures that, despite being considerably higher than those of most inhabited worlds, remain tolerable for permanent settlement. This plateau is home to Kar-Dur, the planet’s only permanent settlement, established around some of the largest known deposits of Durakite and Bambina in USF space.
Despite its relatively small population, Gerion II holds considerable strategic importance due to its mineral production. Its resources supply shipyards, heavy industries and military manufacturing facilities throughout the Federation. The planet’s economy revolves almost entirely around mining, mineral processing and industrial exports, supported by extensive mining infrastructure and orbital freight stations connecting its operations with the rest of the system.
Planetary View
From space, Gerion II is characterized by a dark brown surface with subtle reddish and copper undertones, creating the appearance of a massive, ancient volcanic world. Its terrain is predominantly smooth from a distance, with scattered glowing orange fissures and faint traces of molten activity beneath the crust. The surface displays variations of deep brown and burnt umber, preventing it from appearing entirely black.
A dense layer of atmospheric clouds surrounds the planet, forming extensive swirling patterns in muted brown, charcoal and barely perceptible orange hues. Its atmosphere produces a soft amber glow along the planetary edge, giving the world a distinctive warm halo against the darkness of space.
Surface View
The surface of Gerion II is dominated by dark volcanic landscapes, where ancient basalt formations, rugged mountains and solidified lava fields extend across the horizon. The massive red giant Gerion illuminates the sky with a subdued reddish-brown light, creating an atmosphere that resembles a permanent dusk. The sky displays muted shades of dark brown, burnt red and dusty orange, with a hazy appearance caused by suspended volcanic particles.
The planet’s only settlement, Kar-Dur, stands on an enormous elevated tectonic plateau surrounded by basalt cliffs. Its architecture has a distinctive industrial and monumental appearance, with massive reddish-brown and dark terracotta buildings constructed from reinforced concrete, metal and volcanic materials. Large rounded structures, cylindrical towers and multi-level buildings dominate the settlement, creating a dense and uniform urban landscape.
The streets consist of broad paved surfaces and open plazas connecting the different architectural complexes. Horizontal strips of pale white and slightly greenish illumination run along building facades, while smaller lights mark entrances, corridors and industrial installations. The lighting is deliberately subdued, contrasting with the dark reddish atmosphere outside.
Kar-Dur is not a sprawling metropolis but a relatively small settlement designed around the planet’s mining operations. Residential buildings, administrative facilities, processing plants and mineral storage complexes form its main urban infrastructure. Beyond the settlement, the dark volcanic landscape stretches toward distant mountains and isolated active volcanic regions. The overall environment is warm, dry and hazy, with the reddish illumination of Gerion giving the city and its surroundings a distinctive appearance.
